Student projects – in the form of case studies – are displayed on the Design Ignites Change website in a public exchange of ideas that gives visibility to the participants. Notable projects are promoted through a public relations campaign to the business and creative communities, as well as the general public.
Social change projects, developed in school, are eligible for a Design Ignites Change Award in one of two categories. The Idea Award is given to a compelling and innovative social-change concept, and the Implementation Award offers grants for the real-world execution of promising community projects.
Applications and online case studies must be submitted and posted by:
Cycle 1: June 30, 2011
Cycle 2: December 31, 2011
These scholarships help young people from minority and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to realize their artistic dreams and recognize their efforts to give back to their communities. This program provides financial support for tuition.
Deadline for application is April 1, 2011.
Two workshops are currently being offered:
Worldstudio, in collaboration with the School of Visual Arts in New York City, offers a six-week summer intensive called Impact! Design for Social Change. On par with graduate studies, this program focuses on social entrepreneurship.
Participating students and educators gain the entrepreneurial skills to secure funding for their projects through Funding Social Change workshops.
College students collaborate with underserved high school students to execute projects around compelling social themes. These are self-guided initiatives, supported by a robust set of open-source guidebooks and documents that give even inexperienced mentors the tools necessary to successfully complete the project while providing a rewarding experience for all participants. Currently Design Ignites Change has two mentoring initiatives underway: Create! Don’t Hate. and School: by Design.
Design Ignites Change offers a platform for educators to involve their students in projects that have positive social impact. The program offers guidance on developing and executing social-change projects and visibility for participating schools on the Design Ignites Change website.
