U of M School of Art & Design students led art workshops once a week with 4th grade students at Butzel Elementary School on Detroit. Part of the process and the project was for the two groups of students to get to know one another--not only their in class lives, but their home lives, neighborhood contexts and aspirations.

Each U of M student was asked towards the end of the semester to create a project with the knowledge gained from their 4th grade partner following 4 months of reciprocal work and dialogue.

Ben English created this super hero logo, promotional poster and t-shirt to be worn by his partner. Wearing the t-shirt reminds its wearer of individual secret powers and strengths and calls to mind the many superheroes who walk among us, waiting to be called to action.
