Sidebars_aboutproj
This architectural thesis explores the concept of a fortress farm; a defensive agricultural community built on lands in danger of violent and state-sponsored destruction. This building type will defend against a political destruction long ignored by the architectural profession, called Domicide: the demolition of the home, its attendant infrastructures, and domestic patterns-of-life by the sovereign of a nation state. The exploration occurs in those spaces where civilian domesticity is violated. The intention is to prevent destruction at its source in a manner which is effective but non-offensive.

This thesis is constructed in a Palestinian community facing destruction. The development of the new village requires two things: irrigation and housing. Any development will face demolition by bulldozer and the area is marked for the expansion of Israeli settlements.

This project seeks to create a permanent community and irrigation system on the site. Irrigation channels will be built above-ground, including systems for catching rainwater, while residential tunnels will be created below-ground out of sight.
