Our class project was to create an Iphone App that addressed a pressing social cause, in this case homelessness and poverty in Illinois. Nationally, the rate of homelessness has risen about 35% since the start of the recession, and today the average age of a homeless person on the streets of Chicago is 9 years old. It is clear that these people and families need help, and my hope is that with this iPhone App people will be able to learn what the problems are and be able to help the cause by donating from their phones. Even if it is just a dollar, it could make a big difference.

The challenge was to find a way to educate people about the growing rate of poverty and homelessness in Illinois. I believe that in order to confront a problem, you have to understand it first, so this was my primary goal.

With the "Help Feed Illinois" iPhone App, users will have quick and organized on-the-go information at their fingertips so they can easily educate themselves about today's poverty issues within the state. Should they wish to actively help the cause, the App also makes it easy to find local places to donate and volunteer.
