Special Spectators is an NPO from Chicago that creates special events for very sick or dying children. They do this by partnering with universities, creating events that give the kids memorable opportunities that aren't normally available.. At the moment, these events usually focus around a sports games. The children get to go on the field and get a standing ovation or meet the players in the locker rooms, etc. I got to experience this firsthand when the Marching Illini hosted five young girls from Special Spectators for a football game. It was an incredible experience. I wanted to find a way to spread the word about Special Spectators.

Sidebars_challenge

The goal of this project is to increase awareness of Special Spectators by creating an app that functions as a newfeed. Being a completely volunteer nonprofit organization, money is also a constant need. I wanted my app to allow people to donate to the organization as well as see what is happening.

Sidebars_solution

My solution was to create an app that functions as a newsfeed and has an area to submit donations. This is really important for Special Spectators, as it takes money to get these events in place. Having news about the group gets the word out very effectively and lets people see exactly the impact this group has.
