On the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign - Urbana, recycling is an afterthought. Typical college student trash has a great deal of recyclables. College students don’t feel compelled to recycle because it is viewed as a hassle. My project is for an IPhone application that makes recycling as easy as throwing trash away. It is called Bin Finder. It allows you to select a recyclable item and then it shows map of the closest recycling bins. If a bin isn't within walking distance, it allows you to request that one be placed at your current location. In this way, the community can actively engage in the recycling and help the earth.

To make recycling easier so that more people are encouraged to do so. Also to educate people on how to recycle, where to recycle, and what is happening in the world in relation to recycling. Additionally this app aims to help people feel more involved in their own recycling habits and the recycling of their community.

This is done by educating people about recycling and making recycling more accessible. With this application someone can input the type of recyclable material they have and see the closest bin to recycle it. Also, people participate with this application in requesting bins where there may be none.
