Sidebars_aboutproj
The WHAT IF project began as an attempt to use design as a vehicle to promote change and bring attention to a social issue that was apparent in the city of Detroit. With the city already in poor condition, what if it could change? What if? Two words. An infinite amount of possibilities. The idea was to pose this question along with my image archive captured during my research. What if you could do anything with this empty space? What would you put in it? Why not give the power to the kids, the future members of the city, and let them play an active role in reshaping the landscape of the community they are growing up in? What if?

Sidebars_challenge

To create a project that positions the idea of change in Detroit in a positive light. So much negative press about Detroit makes it difficult to see it in a new way. This project was to use design thinking to create positive change.

"What If" consisted of hand held pens created to respond with a Wii remote, which allowed participant to draw over bleak images of Detroit neighborhoods, in order to create their own vision of what could be.
