Hospitals and clinics are very foreign environments to most people. The process of receiving care can feel like a visit to a foreign land; from the way people are dressed, to the language used, to the lack of familiarity with processes and procedures. This project aims to provide a guide for patients to understand and navigate the health care process. By providing a guide to their care, patients will feel less anxious and more comfortable, leading them to ask the right questions and communicate effectively at the right times. Most importantly, they will get the most out of their care.

Sidebars_challenge

Patients come in all shapes and sizes. Most are unfamiliar with processes involved with the care they are receiving. Because of this, uncertainty and worry are the most common emotions felt during the care process. Currently, the resources provided to patients lack context to the overall process.

Creating a care map for patients erases the anxiety that comes with a visit to the hospital. It also allows them to see the bigger picture of their care process as well as providing a structure for the information they receive throughout their care. The map becomes an orienting instrument in an otherwise foreign land.
